For the first time in ages, I have a plot bunny for Steve and Bucky again.

Nothing big. Just a one-shot set during Infinity War, if the big battle didn’t take place until the day after the boys are reunited. Pre-existing relationship, months spent apart from each other.

And it revolves around Steve finally having a beard. Also the shaggy hair. More to pull on.

Let’s see if I can feel inspired enough to turn this into an actual fic.

‘Cause that’s what happens when one of the few people Peter has left dies and he just gets the news. Just like when Tony learned that a man he’d considered a friend knew his parents had been assassinated by the Winter Soldier and then tried to murder a Hydra war prisoner whose face he’d just watch crush his mother’s throat. I’m not saying either didn’t fuck up that scenario. I’m not saying that Peter Quill didn’t have immeasurably higher stakes. But in the last couple of crazy years he’d been able to channel that rage and loss and grief at the loss of his mother to saving Xandar, and then keeping his Celestial father from taking over thousands of worlds. I’m sure Peter thought, for a hot second, that maybe because he’d failed Gamora once, he sure as hell wouldn’t fail her twice. The others were holding him down, he had a shot to take that revenge, use that emotion, and save the rest of his family.
It didn’t work. It messed up on a scale that’s universe-wide. I thought it showed our short-sighted human impulses and the fallibility of heroes: everyone else’s stake in defeating Thanos was important (and in Tony’s case in particular, years in coming), but Thanos made Quill’s the most immediate.
Also if you think that Dr. Strange didn’t foresee Peter Quill rage-shooting Thanos during 99% of those 14 million+ future scenarios, I’ve got a bridge to sell you.

How Infinity War Part II needs to end

Thanos gave the answer away right before The Snap: “You should’ve aimed for my head.”

So whatever happens in the next movie (including but not limited to Miss Marvel kicking ass and possibly saving the Avengers’ asses a heckin lot of times), I need it ending with the original team somehow managing to get at least the Time Stone so they can reverse time right to the moment before Thor hurls Stormbreaker at Thanos - and this time, aims right for the head.

Thanos dies. The Snap never happens. None of our faves go poof, and (mostly) everyone lives.

I’m very partial to this ending because then I’ll no longer need to light myself on fire I mean I dunno about any of you but

Oh, I 100% believe that Strange knew that in the only scenario in which they could win, he needed to sacrifice the Time Stone, and subsequently himself. He may be completely unable to know for sure the actions of everyone else, so whether it would work would still be completely unknown to him, but I wholeheartedly believe that he knew he needed to give up the Time Stone and sacrifice himself (and half the universe) in order for there to be hope that everyone else’s actions would also play out at they should in order for this to be that one scenario that was successful.

Steve had little screen time, imo, and Bucky had waaaay less, do you think that maybe, in the next movie, we'll get more of them? :( I'm still so mad, sad, confused, numb, shocked about the movie :/ Why would they be so awful to give Bucky that last line?! 😩 And Steve looks so devastated at the end :( It was like, "Again? :'( I have to see the love of my life die, again? and now that I just got him back" 💔

I swear to goddamn christ that if Steve watches Bucky die one more time, I will light myself on fire and burn the theatre to the ground.

There were so many characters in that movie that it was hard to equally divvy up the screen-time, but yeah, I guess I also expected Steve to have a bit more of a role - and wasn’t entirely expecting how minimal screen time they gave Bucky. Like, I knew he wouldn’t have much, but that was… very not much, lol.

My guess is we’re definitely going to get much more screen time for Steve in the next movie, but I’m not so certain that Bucky will get much until everyone who bit the dust in this one *fingers crossed* is brought back to laugh near or at the end of the next film (my guess).

That movie fucked me up way too hard, I hate my life.

Hawkeye and Ant-Man aren’t in this movie, which was explained with a throwaway line about them making a deal in light of the Accords thing and being on “house arrest” in order to pick the path of least resistance and keep their families safe.

Having said that, given the ending of the film, it’s completely up in the air regarding if what happened affected either of them or not.

So they’re now Schrödinger’s Clint and Schrödinger’s Scott.
